A Solar Power Incentive is Good for the Environment and the Wallet By Tony Hartmann
With the earth’s population getting larger and larger, there is the risk of depleting natural resources. With society using things like gas and oil as sources of energy, the hole in the earth’s ozone layer is getting bigger and bigger. Thus, an excellent and environmentally safe alternative is to install a solar power system, and for more people to start doing that, solar power incentives are being offered.
What is a Solar Power Incentive?
Many people want to do something to help the environment, and installing a solar power system in their home is one way to do that. However, solar power systems are not inexpensive, so various state governments offer solar power incentives to make them more affordable. For example, if one were to purchase a solar power system, a local program might entitle that person to tax credits, loans, grants, and tax rebates.

per watt for a system that is up to 50 kW, which means that New York will pay for up to 60% of the total cost of the solar power system. New York also provides a 25% tax credit for those people in residential sections who choose to install a solar power system that is no more than $3,750. Long Island has different solar power incentives, in that they get a rebate of $3.75 per watt, and residential solar power systems costing no more than $2,000 get a 30% federal tax credit.
Solar Power Incentives in the State of California
The California Energy Commission offers rebates of $2.60 per watt for power systems that are under 30kW. However, in Santa Clara and Palo Alto, rebates of up to $4.00 per watt are offered. Rebates of up to $6.00 per watt are offered in Los Angeles, but the power system that is to be installed had to have been manufactured within the city itself. Also, for residential solar power systems costing no more than $2,000, a 30% federal tax credit is applied.
