It is Truly Amazing How Solar Power Works By Tony Hartmann
In a world in which almost every aspect of daily life is run by electricity, it is rather amazing how solar power works in comparison. Indeed, if one stops to consider how solar power works, they will be amazed to find how natural elements in science can be more powerful than man-made elements.
What is Solar Power?
Simply put, solar power is a natural technology in which energy is derived from sunlight. It has actually been in use for centuries in varying forms, and is especially useful in areas where electricity is in short supply.
How Solar Power Works in Regard to Heating Water
Solar power can be an efficient way to heat water. For water, solar hot water systems use the light of the sun to naturally heat water. These solar power systems contain a storage tank and solar thermal collectors.
There are three types of solar hot water systems. These three types include active systems that use pumps to process heating fluid or to circulate water, batch systems in which sunlight is used to directly heat a tank of water, and passive or thermo siphon systems, which are similar to active systems,

Make a solar cell in your kitchen! Did you know that you can make your own solar collector? I just learned this, and wanted to share it with... These are the coolest - solar Powered Radio Headphones! I never would have thought it, but there are some really great applications fo solar technology these days... take these solar powered headphones for instance... KCC Report: Cost Effective Solar Power in the Heartland KCC Energy Programs Manager said the objective was to demonstrate that solar cells are a viable source of energy for powering many different types of electrical devices.
except that instead of pumps they use natural circulation.
How Solar Power Works in Regard to Heating Homes
To sufficiently heat a home, solar power must be used in conjunction with a Trombe wall. A Trombe wall is solar ventilation and heating system that is passive. This system is basically an air channel that is located between a wall that faces the sun, and a window. During the day, sunlight heats the designated space, causing air circulation in vents located at the top and bottom of the Trombe wall. At night, the resulting stored energy is what is used to heat the home.
How Solar Power Works in Regard to Cooking
Solar has been used in cooking for quite a long time. In fact, the earliest example of a solar oven is thought to have been invented by Horace de Saussure in 1767. The concept of how solar power works in regard to cooking is fairly simple: a solar box cooker, which is usually a metal box of some sort, traps the energy of the sun within the box, and that heat is used to cook the food that is within that box.
Solar Power: An Efficient From of Energy
Solar power can also be in lighting, and many electric plants are starting to use solar thermal energy, as it is safer for the environment. While some solar power systems are expensive, many are inexpensive; either way, they save in utility costs and thus pay for themselves within several years. For a healthy and effective way of using energy as an alternative to electricity, solar power is an excellent option.
